Blackwood
Marathon (27
October 2012) Address: PO Box 259, Bridgetown, WA 6255 The event: The annual Blackwood Marathon is a relay race held in October each year. It attracts over 750 competitors. There are 5 members in each team: a runner, a canoeist, a swimmer, an equestrian and a cyclist. The race begins in the town of Boyup Brook and finishes in Bridgetown after journeying around 60kms through some of Western Australia’s most picturesque countryside of the Blackwood River Valley. The 16km horse course is the penultimate leg, and takes part on gravel roads, through lush green paddocks and along the side of the Blackwood River. The course is quite undulating with challenging hills that require a fit, well trained horse. Teams can be out if, 30 minutes after finishing their leg, the horse’s heartbeat does not return to below 60 beats/min. Horse riders pass their team numbers onto the final team competitor. A great day for all: competitors, supporters, and spectators. Visit their website for more information/entries. |
